Move your body

Did you know that it is recommended that children and young people do a minimum of 60 minutes of physical activity each day? You can go outdoors, or it’s just as easy to achieve this indoors. It can include walking to school, playground games, PE and sport or physical activity or games at home.

Taking part in sport and physical activity builds self-esteem; builds self-confidence and plays a crucial role in promoting a healthier lifestyle. It also provides an opportunity for children to meet new people and build friendships and most importantly, sport can be lots of fun for children and can also involve your family and friends in the fun activities.

Eat well

In order to become more active, what children eat is so important. Starting their day off with a healthy breakfast and including fruit and veg with their meals and snacks will give them the fuel they need to concentrate at school and be active all day long. Drinking six to eight glasses of water everyday is also a necessity to stay healthy. For more tips and advice for all the family visit www.eatwell.gov.uk

Measure your success

Research shows that most parents underestimate the amount of physical activity children do at school. The Activ8 Eatwell Diary will help you see how much physical activity your child does each day and it gives you some ideas for activity you can do as a family. The diary will also help your child measure how many glasses of water they have drunk and whether they have had a healthy breakfast each day.

Be part of a team

And for those children who really want to go wild with physical activity, check out the Wildcats Activ8 clubs! Normally held after school, the Wildcats clubs offer a unique form of physical activity aimed at children aged 5 – 11 years old, using fun activities to develop their skills for sport
